High school students have the opportunity to join many clubs and sports during their high school career. Some opt out and don’t participate, but many students join and say they absolutely love the clubs and sports. Grace McAlister, 12, joined volleyball her freshman year and is now on the flag football team.

Usually, tackling two sports is a hard and stressful task, but McAlister does it with ease. She said, ” I wasn’t really stressed about having to play two sport this year because I have a large break between the two”. However, she did not want to get involved in too much stuff because it is her senior year, she says, “I would say you have to be very dedicated to both [sports and school] because if you don’t balance [them] out one will take priority while you begin to lack in the other “.

It takes time and good habits to balance out schoolwork and sports. McAlister recalled not having enough time for school activities and friends, or to hang out and chill on the weekends. Some advice she wants to give to underclassmen who want to participate in sports is to be committed to sport and keep up with school. McAlister says, “It may be challenging but if you really want to balance the two out, you need to give both your all. If you focus on one activity more than the other then you are going to slowly fall behind in the other”.
